Recommended settings

For the best possible rendering of the theme, it's recommended that you stick to either light or dark mode and use the related icons/wallpaper. While not required, having the Reduce Motion setting set to on will help with the fine details (in addition to the bump in perceived snappiness across the OS).

Additionally, this theme is designed with the iOS 14 widget and app drawers in mind which allows these customizations to truly shine (one-page home screen).

Optional Widgetsmith tips:

• Set your font to "Gill Sans" as it's the classic font used on the Gameboy
• It will take some trial and error to match the background and text to the icons and background. As you get closer and closer to matching them, save the colors to the Widgetsmith interface so that you can easily use those colors across all of your custom widgets. Currently, this is the only way to really get the colors synced up.

How to add custom icons without modifying your device

Here's a good run down.

In a nutshell, you'll be making an app shortcut to open another app:

1. Open Shortcuts (install it from the Appstore if you don't already have it), tap add a new shortcut
2. Add an action > Search and tap "Scripting"
3. Under "Apps" tap "Open App"
4. Tap "Choose", search and tap your desired app
5. Name your shortcut (I like to use the name of the app for organization), tap "Add to Home Screen"
6. Rename the shortcut to the app name, tap the default icon and select "Choose Photo"
7. Choose your desired icon, tap "Add" and it will be added to your home screen

Can I use the icons without the custom wallpapers?

Sure! Go ahead and use them however you like. They go nicely with a Pip boy style wallpaper or something along those lines. Follow your heart.
